How does your crazy schedule make it difficult to have roommates?

Did you check the boards and notebook??

Move to West Hartford FAST and pay whatever it costs. You might have luck finding a 3rd floor apartment in someone's home for a low rate. See if you can put up a notice in Whole Foods (Quiet med student seeks studio apt. in your home). I would GRAB you as a tenant in a heartbeat, because I know that you'll never be around, will pay your rent, and will be very quiet.

When I was in school, I lived in some very iffy areas of Philadelphia. Lived with the cockroaches, got rid of the mice with traps. Luckily, I was never raped or assaulted (but only by luck), but was burglarized by a violent drug dealer from downstairs. Looking back on it, I realize that I was an absolute fool to have done it this way. I should have valued my own safety and well-being enough to spend the money for a safer place. Eventually you'll make a decent living. Borrow a little more now and move to a safer area.

That's a pretty good idea, I'll make up a flyer to post in Whole Foods. In the meantime, I'll be looking at a few places with a classmate who I might room with next year. At least we'll both have crazy schedules.

Wow, someone tried to steal my car last night parked behind my apartment. Nice. Maybe God is telling me "You should move back to the suburbs".

Also post in Big Y, Shoprite, the Whole Foods branch in Bishop's Corner, the Crown in Bishop's Corner, and Stop and Shop on Farmington near Mountain. You'll find a third floor in someone's old house. Make sure you mention "quiet medical student" in the flyer so people will know you're responsible and never home.

Maybe check out some of the condo complexes in Bloomfield. I'm not sure if any are up for rent, but it's worth looking into. Bloomfield is pretty cheap relative to West Hartford, Avon, etc., and it would probably be about a 15-20 minute drive to the med center. You could also look into areas of Farmington close to the med center. It definitely won't be very 'urban', but West Hartford Center is only about at 10 minute drive.
