Should we expect the state parks to begin collecting entrance fees on Memorial Day or possibly any sooner this year? I only ask b/c I think I remember them starting a week or two earlier once.

Any word on when clean up will be done on the beaches like Sherwood Island in Westport? I've noticed bunches of shells there, not sure if this will be cleaned up or if that's just the norm there.

Also I've seen some "red sand" in some spots, anyone know what causes this?

FWIW Silver Sands in Milford does not have any entrance fee. I personally prefer it to Sherwood and it has a great new boardwalk.

Shells and other naturally occurring debris are not cleaned up.

I just took a stroll through silver sands to walnut beach boardwalk. I noticed the ground crews doing some cleanup. They don't charge an entrance fee but it will only be a matter of time that they will start to. Someone has to pay for the upkeep.

They were cleaning up the trash? It's pretty bad in some parts of the boardwalk.

I honestly think they should charge a modest parking fee for non-Milford residents and use the money to upkeep all the town beaches.

Silver Sands is a state park so not charging Milford residents would be unfair and I think illegal. I doubt that will happen. Jay

Default Hamden's Sleeping Giant Park

Hi,
I have worked with Autistic adults for over 25 years. The clients love to take long walks on Sleeping Giants beautiful trails or have a hot dog and hamburgers at the picnic tables that have grills and are in nature's air conditioning...all of the tall evergreens.
I was shocked a couple weeks back when a "guard" stopped us at the entrance and asked for over $50!! It used to be free. These are the folks that really get hurt the most when the rich get more tax breaks and social programs are left to fend for themselves. What kind of people believe that millionaires do not have to pay their fair share. I know I do on my $30,000 a year which equals about $18.000 to live on after all the deductions are taken out for programs that some politicians want to abolish...Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.
Imagine your bank kicking you out of your house, because they are "abolishing" mortgages. The money you have paid in mortgage payments foy years means nothing.....just like the tens of thousands I have paid into Medicare and Social Security was just a Ponzi scam.

High tide brings tons of debris (shells, wood, pebbles, seaweed) onto the beach everyday. In Greenwich we have machines that rake the sand every morning around 7-8 AM during visitor season. I believe the beach raking is going to start in 3 weeks when the beach becomes non-public on/around May 20.

That's Greenwich town beaches, I don't think the state beaches bother with any kind of regular clean-up like that.
