Does anyone on here know anything about ISO files? They are probably the most pain the ass thing I have ever worked on dealing with a computer.
I have an ISO image of Windows 7. My goal, obviously, is to get this to where I can install it. The way to so that is to burn it to a DVD or so I have been told.
I've done this with 4 different burning programs and cannot get it to work. It just burns the ISO file onto the DVD and I am sitting here with an ISO file over and over again. How do I get it to where it is a Windows 7 disc that will be just like I purchased it at the store.
How the hell do I do this? Anyone?
FYI - This is a legal copy of Windows 7 downloaded through my university.
An .iso file is what they refer too as an image of a disc, it's kind of like a zip file and will contain all the contents of a disc. If you look in the options of any burning program you'll find language similar to "burn from image"...
You can also use special programs to mount the image in a virtual drive like daemon tools:
Usually, all you need to do with an .iso file is double-click on it to open the file using the default disk burning program and then click BURN (or something similar).
Sounds like you are copying the iso file to the DVD.
Download a program called imgburn.
I used imgBurn, it didnt work. It just burned the ISO file to the disc.
I found a program on the Microsoft website that is specifically designed to burn Microsoft 7 ISO files and it said that my file was not a valid ISO file. It has an ISO extension and was dowloaded from a reliable website. I have an e-mail in to them to find out what's going on.
You may have to tell your burning program to burn an Image File, and then it will ask you to specify or select the image file to burn. That is when you would select the .iso.

Thanks for the input.
If anyone else has any ideas, let me know.
Unless there is an odd situation where the image file contains an image file. So you burn the image file to a disk (or mount the image file), then you have a disk with an image file on it which you need to burn to a disk and this disk would have a file structure on it.

Probably have to mount it and install it, or burn it and install it.
You can try alcohol 120 which has a free trial. You can try virtual clone cd by slysoft which has a free trial. You can try daemon tools which has a free trial but im unsure if the trail includes the mounting program
Mounting the image basically creates a virtual drive like a DVD drive so it thinks the program is on a DVD in a dvd drive in your computer. Im going to go head and assume what you have is a pirated copy which is why it needs to be mounted.

What I have been trying to do is burn it and install it just like I bought the Windows 7 disc at the store which I believe is how it is suppose to work.
I've used PowerISO, Nero 8, imgBurn, and a couple of other programs I have downloaded, I get the same result every single time which is a bunch of files that will not do anything.
Also are you sure its an iso image and not an MDF or MDS file?
