Outdated for what?

So long as you are not streaming HD, that machine could become your HTPC and run off a file server in the other room.

It could also BE the file server, either on its own, or with a decent RAID card.

If you are talking about games, then that would depend on the memory (some boards can allow 3G, and it does help, but I was having problems with, I think, heat when I went to 4G and it could only see 3.28... The 3.28 is th OS, not the heat BTW! ). It would also depend on the vid card. The 6150SE sounds like either an OEM cheapie or an on-board chip.

See if you have a PCI-e slot and you might be able to get a decent vid card for $100 or so that will vastly improve your gaming.

As for the rest, follow what these guys have said. Reseat all your connections (get a blower to blow out some too), check your HD and memory, and see if you can set up an account for your RM that will block these sites (stick him on high scurity on IE with no admin rights).

Oh, when you are done, there are some free programs that help against viruses.

Malwarebytes
Avira Antivir
Superantispyware
Spybot Search and Destroy

I recommend you get them and install them ASAP.

Also, check the temperature. Get a can of air and clean out the heatsinks, if you haven't done that in more than 6 months, you are WAY overdue. Heat can be killer, but is an easy thing to fix.

I agree. It's one of those terms that, although you've never heard it before, you instantly understand and know exactly what it means.

The price of a new computer - be it a desktop of a laptop / net book has come so far down - to me, it does not seem even logical to build one when you can buy a new one - with warranty for a few hundred dollars (under a 1,000).

Got a Sam's Club or Costco membership? Check out their prices.

I bet a new case and power supply (assuming they used standard in it) would fix it.

Nice for the price!

I'm in the same boat right now - build it or buy it?

Since I've never had a problem with Gateways, I'm kinda considering this one cause I'm short on time and it will pretty much do everything I need (I'm not into PC gaming):

BJ's Wholesale Club > Computers & Office > Computers > Desktops & Servers > $479.99 less $50 Online Instant Coupon on Gateway Desktop PC with AMD Phenom X4 64-Bit Quad-Core Processor, 4GB DDR2
