To hide who you are & where you are use a "proxy server".

Look up what a Proxy server does and where to find them.

IP spoofing is another method to which one can hide their identity when connecting to other networks. Though I wouldn't recommend its use for those who are inexperienced in the field.

I looked at several and tried a couple and it seems a proxy company can be just as hazzardous as anything else. I tried to login to myspace and the proxy site warned me it didn't protect from outside veiwing of anything I transmitted.
Is their something I missed or what?

This is what I understand as well.
Look at the story of the lady that was just fined for sharing music; how did they find her? Through her computer. They know everyone she shared music with.

Woman fined to tune of $1.9 million for illegal downloads

People can try to hide all they want.. it won't work if they want to know who you are.

Hehehe. Try to locate me based on the permanent IP I'm using. Hint: the IP address that I'm identified with is located (legitimately) in central Europe, while I'm actually located in the southern US. I'm not using any sort of misdirection; we simply have a global presence, and that's where the IP is registered. There are many web sites which try to be "intelligent" about locating people based on IP ... I can't use them from here because they thing I'm not in the US. Idiots.

You can google "hide my ip" and find sites that will let you use proxy ip addresses and go on forums (like this one) under fake ip addresses. It's very easy.
