Fast growing startup Slack which makes communication software for businesses has confirmed a hack which lasted four days last month during which time thieves had access to encrypted passwords, names, email addresses, phone numbers and Skype user names.

The company has now introduced a two step authentication process and encourages all users to adopt the new security measure.

Applications supported by the software include Google Hangouts, iMessage, SMS, email along with Dropbox and audio in Soundcloud.

Slack has approximately 500,000 users with companies such as Apple, Google, Microsoft, Twitter and Facebook using the platform.

We started using two-step authentication with Slack as a result of this hack. It's a shame that they were this late to the game. I don't know the setup at other companies, but the only thing Slack has access to is our Slack login information. They don't have our skype usernames, hangout information, etc.
