You do not need a backspace in Linux?

Or does Linux fix busted keyboards?

Both.... but if he had a Mac the keyboard wouldn't have busted in the first place, so he should get a Mac.

they told me it's going to cost $135 just for the keyboard... is dv6 2155dx the only number I need to find the right keyboard? I don't want to attempt to take out the keyboard since I don't know anything about assembling laptops

Remove the keyboard, usually fairly easy, and there will be a sticker on the bottom that says replace with spares #, that number is what you need. $135 is about $100 too much for that keyboard.

You can probably find a youtube video showing how to remove the keyboard, most are only a few screws.
