Columbus is by far the most underwhelming of the three c-s and Dayton has a more interesting history. So theres that.

I have a complaint - who thought it was a good idea to build a new stadium (which is beautiful)... that only seats 20k?!
That's less than the prior stadium!

I don't know what they were thinking, but in general I find having smaller capacities is better for keeping a good atmosphere. When a team is winning and everyone wants to be there, you kinda wish it were bigger, but if there are lean years, there won't be sellouts. 10k people in a 20k stadium still feels like a real game. 10k people in a 30-40k stadium feels empty and sad.

True, good point. But I feel they could have done at least 25k. 20k for a brand new stadium in a growing sport where you already have a big franchise that has won titles.... just sounds a bit low. I wonder if they built in plans to be able to expand it a bit. Fill in the empty spots in the corners.

It would also give more leeway to host certain other events. Like the World Cup for ex. Probably they would not even consider Lower.com due to size.

TQL (cincy) fits 26,000

But I do agree that the atmosphere in Lower.com is great.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I believe it was ever common, because it's non-existent now and people still claim it happens all the time.

Columbus gets absolutely crapped on here regardless of what anyone says or doesn't say. And there seems to be nothing that triggers that reaction more than literally any mildly positive comment about it, even when there is not a single mention of any other Ohio city.

How can they talk about anything related to Columbus when every thread gets bogged down in the kind of scintillating commentary about how much better Peoria is. I would imagine the constant negative attacks probably don't do much for making anyone want to stick around.

Here are all the soccer-specific stadiums built or planned in the last 5 years.
Allianz Field- 2019- 19,400
Audi Field- 2018- 20,000
BMO Stadium- 2018- 22,000
CityPark- 2023- 22,500
DRV PNK Stadium- 2020- 21,000
Geodis Park: 30,000
Lower.com- 2021- 20,371
Q2 Stadium- 2021- 20,738
TQL Stadium- 2021- 26,000
Avg: 22,445

It's about 10% smaller than the average. Even Miami's new one with Messi will have only a few hundred more seats. I would assume that if sellouts continue, perhaps they could eventually expand it. Keep in mind they were probably being a little cautious considering the long-running problem with the Crew at the old stadium was getting consistent attendance. That was for many reasons, including poor ownership and location.

Say what you want about Peoria, but they did a great job on Interstate 74. It has a lot of curb appeal as you drive through there. I wish ODOT would have copied them for the downtown Columbus projects.

Awful location and it was like going to a high school stadium. Definitely not nice enough to be considered an event for the casual fan.
