Hi - I am soon to be a single parent, hoping to relocate from Portland, OR to the Columbus vicinity to be closer to family in Ohio. I was wondering if anyone had info regarding the cost of living in Columbus metro area, such as the monthly utility costs for maintaining a 1500 square foot home, average monthly food costs for 2 indiviuals, etc. I have been to New Albany several times and that will not be an affordable option for me, particularly the property taxes! Also, if anyone has suggestions on communities that have good schools, parks, recycling programs and community involvement, I would be grateful. Thank you!

I'm sorry I don't have a lot of info but my sister lives in Deleware County and from what I know it is probably one of the most affordable suburbs. It is a little far out. I even ran acrossed it in a list of top places to get ahead. I like to look at Remax.com...you don't have to sign up for anything and it is easy to search for exactly what you want...I am not a realtor! =) Hope this helps!

Thank you for the suggestion. Everyone here in Portland says that I am crazy to leave but I grew up in Ohio and I think the people there make it a wonderful place to live, plus all of my family is there. I will check out the Remax site - it seems like Westerville is really nice but it might be a bit costly. I will check out Delaware county too.

Possibly Upper Arlington... it might be on the more expensive side.... are you looking for somewhere farther in the city... or on the outskirts

Try Reynoldsburg on the east side....nice area, cheaper home prices. You can get a really large home under $200,000.
