We are a retired couple moving to the Columbus from Chicago to be by our daughter and grandson. I'm into golf and fitness and my wife into shopping and bike riding and we have run across on an opportunity to buy a condo in Lewis Center. We were trending to Powell and don't know much about it.
I have heard good schools (just for resale), high traffic. Is there anything else we should know about; crime, things to do?
We don't have much time to react to this sale.
Thanks

How much are you into golf? Lewis Center is right in the middle of a whole bunch of courses, probably so many that if you did a course a day, it would take around a month to do the ones within a 30-minute drive (except for certain times of day when US 23 gets really backed up) of there. Their school district was one of the few I didn't volunteer at when I lived in the area, but I can say that their quizbowl team made the playoffs the last few years, and usually good quizbowl teams come from good schools.

When we moved here from out of state, we looked at Lewis Center, Powell, Dublin to name a few.

We chose Powell. I like the feel of it. It has a great downtown area (really just a small town feel).

I am new to the area, but just from driving around both areas, I felt that Powell was best for me.

Well the condo is already sold. I'm not disappointed since I wanted to take more time on where to live. Out of the areas we have seen I agree Powell seems like our pick at present. Good location for retirees and golf.
Do you know if there are plans to widen Powell Road? It sure was slow last Saturday late morning coming from Westerville going to the zoo.

That is one of my annoyances also. I have heard rumors of them widening it.

There was a plan last year I read on newspaper, that the city is pooling money to widen the powell road, possibly 2014 if I recall correctly. But please don't take my word for it.

I do think it WILL get widen, just the matter of WHEN. See, Columbus Zoo/Zombesi Bay/Zsafari Golf is right there! It is probably the biggest attraction in Columbus. You can drop wife & grand kids to zoo and go golf at Zsafari, Shamlock Golf or Wedgewood.

If you want, I suggest you targeting condo on the West side of Sawmill Parkway. That way you get to avoid the traffic and the Riverside Dr is quick to get to downtown Columbus. You just to avoid getting on the following mad traffic legs:
1) Sawmill Parkway turning west into Powell Rd.
2) Powell Rd, to the east side of Sawmill Parkway. This is applicable to both way traffic into/out of Powell city.

But once you are on Powell Rd (west bound) and getting pass Sawmill Parkway, traffic is good.

Or if you buy into Northern Powell, north of Powell Rd, your commute to Zoo is easy -- Sawmill Parkway south turn right into powell rd, or use Seldom Seen rd to Riverside dr.

Good advice.

There is a condo complex off Powell near Murphy Park in Powell. There is also one off Sawmill Road (not Sawmill Parkway) close to Powell Rd.
