The national magazine, according to its news release, analyzed more than 22,000 schools based on published data and honored 6,041. The top 2.4 percent, including Columbus High, received Gold Awards. The next 10.3 percent received Silver Awards. The next 16.8 percent received Bronze Awards.

The only other local Georgia school in the rankings is Early College Academy of Columbus at No. 77 in the state but without a national ranking (Bronze Award for fourth straight year). That means Muscogee County’s number of schools in the rankings has dropped from five in 2015 (when Columbus High was a gold medalist and Early College, Jordan, Kendrick and Spencer High Schools were bronze medalists) to three in 2016 (when Columbus High was a gold medalist and Early College and Kendrick were bronze medalists) and to two in 2017 (Columbus High gold medalist and Early College bronze medalist).

Whee, so in the last 2 years, 3 schools (of 5) have completely fallen from the rankings.... that's more indicative of the state of things than one school that's remain unchanged.

I think it's funny that the paper is Trying, so hard, to spin this as "getting better" when it's very obvious a "getting worse" trend. As for the school, makes me wonder what level of corruption is involved, al-la the fiasco in Atlanta from a couple years back. Oh, I see, Magnet school... cherry-picking the very best kids (the majority being white) and excluding everyone else. lol... that makes this whole thing even more sad and pathetic. It's essentially a statistical anomaly, look at the Other Columbus schools... 3 are below 20% in both math and english.

(about half-way, there's an X/Y graph with all the Columbus schools):

Sorry if this seems bitter, it's not that I take any joy in knowing that the education system in Georgia is deplorable (heck, the whole country has a Major education problem), it depresses me to know that kids are worse off today than when I was their age when talking about education. I just don't see this as a Positive news story, it's not something to be happy and proud of.....
