Hello All,

My family is relocation from Florida, we are looking were looking at the Charlotte area but then drove around the Columbia area. We liked Irmo due to the mix of rural and close proximity to shopping (Columbiana Mall) and also great schools for our 4 year old. We were looking in the Ballantine area, any locals there that can give some advice on the area...? Thanks!!

KMI

Ballantine is nice area. The whole area between Irmo and Chapin is growing fast. There is a new Wal-Mart set to be built in the Ballantine area. It is an excellent school district, one of the best. It is close to the lake. There are all prices of housing, but obviously lakeside is the most expensive. There are a couple of marinas in the area where you can dock a boat, and both have nice restaurants, where you can get dinner/drinks, or outdoor snacks. Small band on w/e. Very close to the mall, restaurants, apartments in the Irmo area. Very low crime area. Not much bad to say really, except don't come if you don't like hot summers. BTW, much prettier than FL in the fall. There are lots of hardwoods, with pretty leaf change.

Great, thanks for your comments. I was wondering if there were any hidden secrets that would keep us away, great to hear there is not. We are used to hot summers here in Tampa.

Best regards,
KMI
