What is it like living in Lake Carolina with preschool/elementary age children? Lots of things to do? Activities? Dance/gymnastics/sports activities within a short drive? Thanks for any info yall can provide.

You will find many families with young children in Lake Carolina. The public schools in that area have a good reputation. There is a newer YMCA there, the Jeep Rogers YMCA. Also, there are plenty of independent businesses that offer dance, sports, gymnastics, etc. Many area churches also offer sports camps, basketball/soccer leagues, Vacation Bible School, etc. The YMCA staff could probably point you in the right direction for specific activities. Carolina Gymnastics is not in Lake Carolina, but is not too far away. They have programs for young kids.

Lake Carolina is almost tailor-made for young children and families, and there are tons of them here, so there are lots of kid activities within or fairly close to Lake Carolina. As PalmettoGuy mentioned, there is the Northeast YMCA on site that serves the greater Northeast Columbia region. Some area indoor sports activity & gymnastics businesses, in addition to Carolina Gymnastics, include Flip City and the Factory in nearby Pontiac and The Plex in the large Village of Sandhill outdoor mall. Next to The Plex, a large big box sporting goods store called The Academy is being built because of the large demand for sporting activities from young active families in the area.

I must agree that Lake Carolina is great for families. They have activities throughout the year. HOA fees are expensive though and don't include the pool. But it's worth it if you want the best elementary school in Richland School District 2. The Y is great. Also getting to Lake Carolina can be nerve racking at times. Hardscrabble can get backed up and make a normal 10 min drive much longer.
