House,2 or more acres under 300K. Not in a city or a large town. More rural, maybe a 15 or so minute drive to a market or a Walmart.
Looking for info on areas to stay away from due to high crime.
I think nice, safe and quiet is the best way to describle what I am looking for.
Kerry

Check out zip 80132. I just moved from there. Your budget would be at the extreme low end, but you might find what you are looking for. Lots of retired Air Force people there. Very safe, very quiet. Very beautiful. It is about 25 minutes from Colorado Springs and 45 minutes from metro Denver. Also check out Black Forest east of 80132.

Wink 15 minutes?

Possibly Stonewall Gap, CO and vicinity. Well off the beaten track, aside from tourists passing by on occasion. I don't know the area well, but it seems attractive enough, probably safe and quiet enough if yourself located a bit removed from CO 12. A Wal-Mart and shopping would be found in nearby Trinidad, CO. More than 15 minutes into Trinidad, as I recall, but you could move in closer.

In some respects La Veta, CO might be a better choice, or someplace outside of it, but the closest services in Walsenberg, CO, and less than ideal shopping.

Not sure about real estate prices in either of these areas, although La Veta probably more expensive, with something closer to Trinidad meeting your price point.

There are of course other options, such as Monte Vista, CO in the San Luis Valley. The closest Wal-Mart in Alamosa, CO. In or near Monte Vista might fit your criteria.

Farther removed from Wal-Mart a town such as Creede, CO. Real estate more expensive, but more or less possible if you like the area. You just wouldn't get as much for your money. Beautiful country, and a town with a certain charm. For those so inclined.

Suppose you could start off with a map of all the Wal-Mart's in Colorado and draw 15 minute circles around them. If you're willing to drive a bit further your options will open up exponentially. A fair number of nice, safe, quiet areas in Colorado, mostly rural, and often that way because most concerned with ready access to employment and town services.
