1 in 49 Coloradans contagious with COVID-19, says Polis

https://gazette.com/health/1-in-49-c...df71a5e2a.html

"In a Friday afternoon press conference, Governor Jared Polis continued to encourage Coloradans to avoid interactions with people outside of their household unless absolutely necessary. He also delivered the news that around one in 49 Coloradans are contagious with COVID-19.

With an estimated population of 5.8 million people, that means that 118,000 Coloradans are contagious – roughly 2 percent.

Data currently shows that each infected person is contagious for 9 days on average.

“If you interact with five people a day, you’ve probably interacted with someone that’s contagious with coronavirus," said Polis.

Polis urged extreme caution during interactions.

“Treat every interaction like that person is contagious with coronavirus.”

Polis specifically mentioned drinks with friends and dinner parties as two problematic types of gatherings.

“If you don’t live under the same roof [...] the safest thing to do is avoiding seeing people other than absolutely necessary over the next few weeks," said Polis.

With Thanksgiving around the corner and surrounding dates expected to be the most heavily trafficked at Denver International Airport since March, many seem to still have plans to travel to see family. Polis strongly urges against this.

With one in 49 Coloradans contagious with COVID-19, a gathering of 10 people for Thanksgiving would now have a 20 percent chance that someone there is contagious with COVID-19. Given the extended nature of typical Thanksgiving gatherings and close proximity of events, spread would be highly likely if the virus is present."

It will trend back up in about 10 days after all those who felt compelled to travel for Thanksgiving return.

Wishful thinking.

Looks like the mayor of Longmont agrees with me. He's trying to set up roadblocks to prevent residents of counties that ignore the state's health orders from being treated at Longmont hospitals. His proposed ordinance would give precedence to residents of counties that are abiding by the state's orders.

Weld has been fudging their ICU bed capacity by using data from hospitals outside of Weld County.

Like Denver Mayor Hancock who hopped on a plane to spend Thanksgiving with family in Mississippi.

Do as I say, not as I do. I'd like to see politicians make the same sacrifice they expect everyone else to make. Including giving up their paycheck since they are telling others they are not allowed to work.

It would be interesting to see how quickly they’d let people go back to work if their paycheck was withheld as well.

Colorado’s COVID-19 hospitalizations increase ahead of Thanksgiving holiday

The state health department reports 3,503 new cases Wednesday

https://www.denverpost.com/2020/11/2...zations-cases/

"The number of people hospitalized with the novel coronavirus Wednesday in Colorado increased by 39 patients from the day before, with 1,652 people now being treated for the disease, according to the state health department.

The Department of Public Health and Environment reported 3,503 new cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus on Wednesday. That’s up from 3,161 new cases the day before.

The percentage of tests coming back positive over the past seven days is 11.45%. The high positivity — well above the recommended 5% threshold — means transmission of the disease is increasing and that the rise in new cases is not simply due to more testing.

Staffing continues to be a challenge for hospitals as 36% of facilities anticipate a shortage in employees in the next week, according to the health department.

Public health officials are also concerned that Thanksgiving gatherings could also drive up infections over the holiday. On Wednesday, the Department of Public Health and Environment issued an open letter once again urging Coloradans to cancel Thanksgiving gatherings with people outside their household, to wear a mask when they do go out and stay at least six feet from others.

“This year, we have seen cases surge after most major holidays,” the health department wrote in the letter, adding, “What we do in the coming days and weeks could save our lives and the lives of others. This is not an exaggeration and we are thankful in advance for your consideration of each other this holiday season.”

Weren’t you the one saying the outbreak timing was “convenient” for the elections?

It’s clearly just the outbreak from Halloween hitting its peak 2-3 weeks after the gatherings, exactly like the epidemiologists have been telling us how things work since March.

Wait until we see the spike from Thanksgiving, it will overwhelm most medical facilities in the nation by Christmas.
