I have family in Grand Junction, so we go there every year.. however, this will be the first year I will go to Colorado for a getaway trip, just my husband and I!!!

Needless to say, we are NOT going to Grand Junction.. instead we want to soak up the areas we usually travel through on the way to and back which would be Salida, Gunnison, Crested Butte.. and then Vail, and possibly less known towns off of highway 70.

We are totally OPEN to anything.. with no set agenda. We just want to do anything and everything we can in the time that we are there.

It would be ideal if everyone who reads this that is familiar with different parts of Colorado could give us at least one breathtaking place to visit, one hotel with outstanding views, hiking/biking trails with amazing scenery to visit, shops/boutiques to visit, great places to eat, ANY MUST SEE PLACES TO SEE, EAT, OR THINGS TO DO!!! I'M BEYOND EXCITED ABOUT OUR GETAWAY ))

Do you have an open ended budget? Because nice hotels with expansive views are going to be pricey. And also some that have views, you have to watch because not all will have the best view or much of a view at all on the lower priced rooms.

Also are you going soon or in the winter?

I haven't been here, but have heard nice things, the views and the pools look great. http://www.pagosahotsprings.com/

More info on where you are flying into, when you are coming, how long you have, will help with more ideas.

Wink At least one idea

Right off I'd suggest the great view from the veranda of the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park. Or basically the 360º panorama afforded outside most any lodge in Ouray.

But, since these two locals seem ostensibly off your itinerary, another idea. If Crested Butte, which of course should afford some lovely lodging, then if to Vail the possible route would be via Kebler Pass (elevation: 10,007 feet) to CO 133, and thence northeast to Carbondale and I-70 at Glenwood Springs. Or perhaps you intend to backtrack and take Cottonwood Pass to Buena Vista, Leadville, etc. But if towards Carbondale, then you'll pass the small town of Redstone along the beautiful Crystal River. There is a lodge there, the Redstone Inn, which may prove tempting:
Redstone Inn - Lodging, Hospitality, Resort in Redstone, Colorado

Then of course certain lodging in Carbondale may well afford a lovely view of Mt. Sopris (12,965 feet) to the south.

The right room in the proper hotel during every stop will help.

The two most amazing views I know are from the Peaks Resort in Telluride and the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park.

How about Hotel Colorado in Glenwood Springs and The Prospector in Aspen?

We stayed there in the off-season and got an incredible rate and you had the most amazing view from there and saw it from our hot tub on our own deck. Not too shabby.

Almost any hotel in Crested Butte will have breathtaking views.
No place in Gunnison will (the town is in a valley)

If you want a scenic drive, take CO road 12 between Crested Butte and Paonia.
