Would you rather us elect a flamboyant hippie from San Francisco?

Not if he's as unqualified as the village idiot.

Or maybe a dumb, downtrodden mope from Philly, perhaps?

That's not remotely insulting...

The second one was stupid enough to report the theft to the campus police. Dude, someone stole my cocaine! That's like the pot dealer reporting to the police his roommate stole his weed.

I have heard of worse. One woman at my alma matter, who was subsequently expelled, tried to sell pot brownies to an RA not once, but twice my freshmen year. When I asked the RA about it she told me that the first time she issued warning to the woman to not sell drugs and to dispose of them (RA's are much more friendly about such things then the police) the second time she busted her largely out of sheer frustration. Some people are just stupid.

Then why mention they are in college? If this was your point mentioning they are in college is as relevant to your point as telling us the color shirt they were wearing at the time.

I'm pretty sure people who aren't in college also enjoy smoking weed and getting laid. In fact, the proportion of my classmates who cared more about getting laid, high, and/or drunk than learning was MUCH higher in high school than it was in college.

I'm currently a graduate student at a huge state university, and yes, the party culture is very much alive here, but the university is also full of very straight-laced people who are in college to learn first, and party second. You simply can't paint every single college student with the same brush.
