It's that time of year and all the politicians and celebrities are making their speeches and getting their honorary degrees. Issac Asimov spoke at mine.

I had Mario Cuomo in 1985, a year after delivering the keynote at the Democratic convention. He was at the height of his recognition at the time.

I couldn't tell you who it was if my life depended on it. I was just happy to be done I didn't hear a word anyone said, except my name, and I only vaguely remember that!

Asked DH if he could remember who spoke at his, and he said the same thing, no clue!

No idea for mine, but when my son graduated (Miami,'09) the speaker was Angela Lansbury. The kids had no idea who she was, but the grandparents attending were impressed.

She spoke at the College of Arts and Sciences graduation as though everyone was a theater major instead of a science major. Whatever her message was it didn't connect.

I didn't go to my college graduation, but the speaker at my law school graduation was Martha Griffiths, who I think was the first female member of Congress from Michigan.

I did not bother to go. It was too expensive, and my family did not care that I graduated.

Some alum who had won a prestigious award for writing. Small, private regional liberal arts college...they don't usually do celeb speakers or talking heads.
