I lived in the FL Panhandle for over a decade and got to know many SEC fans - including Alabama. I worked with alumni. SEC football is great - I am a fan. I do have to point out one flaw in the SEC - no collegiate wrestling. The best SEC football players would most likely get pinned in a one-on-one wrestling match at a school that has a good D1 wrestling program (NCAA). I can't conceptualize Alabama's best linebacker or lineman beating a collegiate heavyweight wrestling champion in a one-on-one matchup in a D1 tournament. To be fair, the SEC is large enough that every now and then an SEC player can be found who was indeed a HS wrestling champion. But HS wrestling is nowhere near as competitive as college. It's not uncommon for HS wrestling champions to lose over half of their matches in collegiate D1 wrestling where most everyone was a HS champion. Wrestling practice is hard - usually about 4 hours at the HS level (hour of running, hour of calisthenics/weight lifting, then an 2 hours of practicing moves). In college it gets worse. The elite usually have been wrestling since early in grade school. So by college they often have over ten years of experience and know all the major tricks in the book. Then they compete against each other and an undefeated record is generally unrealistic. It's rare. I can't imagine an Alabama football player going into a tournament and coming out undefeated with 0 weeks of practice at the college level without knowing any complicated move a typical college competitor would know. I know of a case where a three-time HS 190 lb champion who could bench press 400 lbs lost over half his matches his freshman year of college because it was so much more competitive.

Why doesn't the SEC have wrestling? Sure, Alabama will likely win the championship again in football (or at least make it to the playoffs). But they won't win the wrestling championship. They don't even have a team.

How many points was Bama favored by over UGA last year? I see its 13.5 pts right now for Saturday's game. Was last years spread larger or smaller?
