New Bern has been really lucky. Strong bands have gone north and south, we have had some good rain, but wind and lightning much less than expected, or observed in other areas.
Must be all the negative energy from the haters around New Bern.

Just to let you all know you're in our thoughts and prayers... being on the AL coast, we can certainly empathize with you on this type weather... as in, we all hope it never comes our way! So, so sorry to hear it is in your part of the country!
Take care, stay safe... may Arthur treat you gently!

We're supposed to be heading down to Atlantic Beach this morning from DC, have delayed our trip until tomorrow hopefully. I lived in Wilmington during the 90's to 03', went through all of them from Bertha on.

Any word yet on how Atlantic Beach fared?
Atlantic Beach is fine. Be mindful of the rip currents. Enjoy your trip.

wish I had seen this earlier beautiful day down here. Early, the breeze was refreshingly cool. As Escape said, be very careful of rip currents if you go out past your ankle.
News from Beaufort is good. We were right in the eye.
Lots of yard debris, some downed trees, a few boats pulled anchor and washed up on shore, no deaths or injuries, power mostly restored after 12 hours off, many tourists out and about, the sight-seeing ferries are running, a lovely day with a great little breeze blowing.
Us? After a day of hurricane prep yesterday, a mostly sleepless night during the blow, we're finishing up on six hours of hauling downed limbs, branches and pinecones from backyard to the street for pick-up.
The governor talks about not putting on your stupid hat, who is actually responsible for wearing the stupid hat when they can't find the funds to build a more practical roadway system to the Outer Banks, something that can sustain minor hurricanes etc. shame on the responible parties, we pay enough taxes in this state ! Buffoons !!!

Ugh, there is no practical roadway to and from ever shifting barrier islands, no matter how much developers, realtors and others with financial interest want there to be.
I also expect the rest of the state, those that fail to profit from the Outer Banks natural beauty are weary of continuously spending money to re-fix the last fix of the fix before that. Those folks in Charlotte that sit in the I-485 parking lot, daily, might just object a tad to more state road money, literally down the drain.
Having said that, a road, modeled after the extended US 17 "bridge" at Little Washington would seem a no brainer.
This is clearly a case of "where you stand is where you sit."
One thing about North Carolina, there is no shortage of stupid hats!
