Continuing the Shape of the Coast program’s tradition of providing the scientific, economic, and sociological context in which coastal legal and policy issues arise, this year's we open with a look at the concept of “ecosystem services” and the complexities inherent in applying the concept in effectively managing coastal resources. Because effective coastal resource management requires financial resources, recent state and federal funding cuts will present serious challenges to state coastal regulatory programs, our second speaker will discuss the impacts of these funding cuts.
