Will be going to Wrightsville Beach for a long weekend the first weekend in October. What will the temps generally be at this time? Will the ocean still be warm at that time or too cool to swim in? Thanks in advance.

October is my favorite month to go to the beach. Most of the tourists are gone, it won't be 100 degrees at noon and the water is still warm enough to swim. In my opinion you picked the perfect time to visit Wrightsville. Temps are usually low 80's during the day and mid 60's at night.

Here is satellite imagery from Oct 6, 2010. October is a transitional month for water temps. and they (temps) start to change quickly towards the end of the month. Note the cold water that has come down to Hatteras.

Looks like there was a SW wind when this image was taken which means the warmest waters have been pushed closest in.

agreed, Oct is the best time of year for good weather.... however, jellyfish and sharks are very active this time of year, and you get some red algae too, and hurricanes. The south atlantic stays very warm in the fall.
