Hello,
I have a question, I a looking to reside in NC but still maintain my employment in Virginia. I need a city where there is a Walmart, near schools, affordable, shops and clean. Can you recommend a city outside of the VA state line that would be ebest for my commute, I was looking at Ahoskie is that my best option?

Why wouldn't you consider Elizabeth City? I am no expert, but I have been to both and I would be looking in that direction. It has larger population, plenty of charm and a lot less crime. It's also about 10 miles closer to your work.
Maybe I missed something, but Ahoski seems like a town you just drive through.

If your looking in north carolina , then i would suggest Currituck County. Its a nice place to live and crime is low, so are the taxes!!!!! I disagree about Elizebeth city crime being low, i live in currituck county and know that Eliz city crime is HIGH !!! As far as Ahoskie, i agree with Mhogan. Currituck is close to beach and also border VA. I have alot of friends who live here and commute to VA for work. You can contact the Currituck chamber of commerce and find out more or if i can be any help pm me. Good Luck

For me I like Rocky Mount. Aside from Walmart you have a symphony orchestra, a university, art museum, science museum, beautiful historic neighborhoods and four trains a day to Washington and New York.

Your best bet is to check Currituck county, its a nice place to live. Many of my friends live here and work in VA. I live in Grandy NC 27939 ITS ALMOST 1/2 HOUR from the VA line. My neighbor works for Cox cummunications in cheasapeake and it takes 45 min to get to work. She chose to live a little further down so they could be 15 min to the beach. Also the HOUSE YEARLY taxes are GREAT!!!!!!!

Currituck County is great. I have family in Corolla and Southern Shores and they love it there. If you are going to go visit stop by and see Doug Bradford at the Currituck Club. He is the broker in charge there and is one of the most wonderful people you could ever meet. If you want to call over there and talk their website is Kitty Hawk Land Company - Homes for sale in Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Rodante, Avon, Hatteras (broken link) . Tell him his son-in-law sent you over there.
