I'm looking for a little help. My husband and I have lived here for 5 years now and have yet to see the Outer Banks. We will have some vacation time in the beginning of June.

Because of time limitations we would like to see Cape Hatteras for sure. The problem is we can't afford the motels on the Outer Banks. ($200+ for the rooms)

Does anyone have any suggestions for motels that are close to the Banks but not necessarily on there? I would say even a few hours away would still give us a chance to explore and take in the beautiful area.

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Cape Pines Motel in Buxton, NC. It's not fancy. Mid-centry place. Most rooms have been redone. NOt ocean front but very close to the beach, National Seashore, Cape Hatteras Lookout, etc.

I'm sure you can find an inexpensive room in Nags Head/Kill Devil Hills,if you book during the week and prior to school letting out.The Ebb Tide,Tarheel and Sweet Dreams motels are a few of the least expensive motels on the beach.Check them out.......$200 is very high, even on weekends during the peak summer months, with the exception of oceanfront.

Like anything else, you get what you pay for.

We have enjoyed the soundfront rooms at the Breakwater Inn. Great location and very nice staff.

If you're really looking to save some coin, the Dare Haven motel in downtown Manteo is a great spot. They even got fish cleaning tables in the rooms!

Second this! Very affordable, very clean. Definitely old furniture, etc., but it was spotless.
