We are relocating to the western suburbs from Columbus here in the next month or so. We have 2 boys, going into 6th and 3rd grades in the fall.

We need a strong special needs department, and an inclusive community We really loved the feel of Avon Lake, but not sure if some where like Westlake or Rocky River would have more resources.

Would love to hear any feedback on these areas and school districts!! Thank you so much!!

Good news is you can't go wrong with any of those four, though how one defines "inclusive" is a bit ambiguous. Those areas are 85-95% white.

Personally I would choose Rocky River.

Rocky River just held its inaugural pride fest at their library and a mini pride march. As far as resources for special needs, I've known families who were extremely happy and families who were severely disappointed. I would take the time to call the district offices and inquire about specific details pertaining to your child.

Avon Lake will get you more space and land that Rocky River. Rocky River will get you more walkable amenities. Avon Lake is in Lorain county which may have cheaper property taxes. Westlake has a more suburban sprawl feel.

New lakefront development in Avon at the old power plant.

Thank you Lakewood, Euclid, and Cleveland Metroparks for providing good examples on how to do lakefront development and demonstrating the pay-offs. Let's get more of this in place and expand the lakefront hike and bike trail.
