All basically equal though. Those numbers are really close.

The recently expanded Cincinnati and Columbus MSAs now have larger populations than the Cleveland MSA.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...tistical_areas

So when the Bureau of Economic Analysis says that the Cleveland MSA has the largest GDP, it means that the Cleveland MSA has a larger per capita GDP as well.

<<Cleveland's economy ranks 28th largest in the nation and is the largest economy of Ohio's metro areas with $139 billion. The local economy grew by 2.9 percent last year.....

The Cincinnati economy increased by 2.4 percent in 2017 to $138 billion and the Columbus economy was up 2.1 percent to $136.3 billion, according to analysis that measures the total value of goods and services in an area.>>

https://www.cleveland.com/business/i...rt_river_index

The helps explain why the Cleveland MSA also has the largest per capita personal income of the three metros. See post 25 in the following thread.

https://www.city-data.com/forum/colum...us-over-3.html

Again, this blunts the rant that the Cleveland economy is inferior to the other two Cs.

Economy is one thing but how does it effect your buying power personally? Let's start with the combined sales tax and we can certainly expand from there into property tax, etc.

Cleveland 8%
Columbus 7.5%
Cincinnati 6.5%

Yes, Cleveland has a larger sales tax, largely to support a significantly superior mass transit system than either Columbus or Cincinnati.

Cincinnati and Hamilton County have no mass transit sales tax. Cleveland and Cuyahoga County have a 1 percent mass transit sales tax. And the Hamilton County (Cincinnati) sales tax rate is not 6.5 percent, but 7 percent on the way to 7.2 percent, with NO mass transit sales tax. Cuyahoga County residents obviously value mass transit services much more than Hamilton County residents, and the presence of RTA increases the discretionary incomes of RTA users on an after-transportation basis. RTA also enables many persons to maintain employment, contributing to the economy, and not draining social services.

Will the Hamilton County sales tax increase be on the November b - News, Weather, Sports, Toledo, OH

Buying power in Cleveland is six percent higher in Cleveland than Columbus, and very slightly higher than in Cincinnati.

What % of the Cuyahoga residents, especially the ones in the suburbs that are still getting charged the tax, actually use the mass transit systems?

Voters in Cuyahoga County support RTA with a voted sales tax. Many recognize that RTA supports many persons unable to afford or use personal vehicles, including tens of thousands of students, increasing the vitality of the community and aiding the less fortunate. Many Clevelanders also use rail rapids to get downtown for special events and enjoy the free bus trolleys that operate downtown. Several of Greater Cleveland's largest educational institutions are supported by robust mass transit connections. One of the Cleveland RTA's bus rapid lines even is named the Cleveland State Line.

https://www.cleveland.com/metro/inde...on_clifto.html

Greater Cincinnati voters have yet to vote a sales tax for mass transit, and have inferior service to both Greater Cleveland, where there are several excellent, voter-supported mass transit systems in addition to RTA, and to Columbus where mass transit is supported by a 1/2 percent sales tax. Everybody who has lived in each of the three Cs, let alone persons familiar with Ohio's mass transit systems, know that Greater Cincinnati has the worst mass transit system among major cities in Ohio. Are you proud of that, IF you even knew it?

Cuyahoga County also has a robust program to end long-term homelessness. What is done in Hamilton County? Cuyahoga County also has a voted sin tax supporting art institutions and the arts in general.

https://www.cleveland.com/metro/inde...es_coalit.html

http://www.cacgrants.org/about-us/

Cuyahoga County has a relatively significant real estate levy to support its acclaimed and award-winning Cleveland Metroparks. All of the five counties of Greater Cleveland have voter-supported metropark systems.

Greater Cleveland, unlike Greater Cincinnati, has community colleges subsidized with voted local tax levies, providing more affordable higher education opportunities for its citizens.

It's easily arguable that Cleveland and Cuyahoga County residents value social goods and community welfare more than those who live in Greater Cincinnati. This says much IMO about the relative quality of the two communities and those persons who populate them.

Why are you still trolling on this issue when you didn't even know the sales tax rate in Hamilton County, nor why the sales tax rate was higher in Cuyahoga County?

HAHA! Yes. Last I checked, it was 7%.

Of note, Montgomery County (Dayton's home county), is moving to 7.5% on Monday!

Default Nexus pipeline?

Greater Cleveland's GDP outperformance in 2017, and into 2018, may be a temporary boom as a result of the construction of the Nexus pipeline through Medina and Lorain Counties.

See post 117 here:

https://www.city-data.com/forum/colum...l#post53249516

As explained in the above post, once constructed, this pipeline may depress the Greater Cleveland GDP in coming years as its large right-of-way is removed from productive use in the local economy, and likely (if my memory is correct regarding the taxation of pipelines and railroads) the pipeline won't be subject to local taxation in any way except for the wages of pipeline maintenance and operating personnel located in Greater Cleveland, likely a miniscule number of persons.

Hopefully Cleveland continues to grow its tech, Blockchain technology, medical, biomedical, tourist industry.. along with our manufacturing, steel and aluminum and auto industry. Cleveland has a real energy currently. Definitely NE Ohio is looking up on many fronts
