What ever happened to the plan that would fill in storefronts on Euclid Avenue a couple of years back? It seemed like such an exciting plan....is it still in the works or has it been scrapped completely? Here's one of the Plan's:

I personally loved that idea.

My guess is the "e" word...economy. But many of those properties have received other uses since, that we will see progress hopefully in the near future:

City of Cleveland (Cuyahoga County) – will receive $3 million to conduct demolition and remediation activities at the John Hartness Brown Redevelopment property, located at 1001-1101 Euclid Avenue. Upon remediation, JHB Hotel will redevelop the property into an up-scale, 206-room Westin Hotel from Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide. This project is expected to create more than 180 jobs. The funds will be used to remove asbestos and general waste from the existing buildings.

Ohio Department of Development | (http://www.development.ohio.gov/newsroom/2011PR/June/8.htm - broken link)

Across East Ninth Street, it also wants to turn the mothballed, six-story Truman Building at 1030 Euclid into 20 apartments, and to update the empty offices in the Security Federal Building, 1110 Euclid. Vacant retail space in the Truman and Security Federal buildings would be sliced down so the buildings could offer tenants indoor parking yet retain retail space on Euclid. Most of the Schofield's prime retail frontage would become the hotel's restaurant and the rest would be offered to service-oriented retailers.

Here's an update on the Schofield building from a PD reporter (something actually useful from the Cleveland.com comments section):

From reporter Michelle Jarboe McFee:
Hi downtownjl -
Thanks for commenting. The Euclid-Ninth tower, also known as the Schofield Building, hasn't been abandoned. I've been told that the project isn't dead - it was just delayed.
The timeline on turning it into a hotel, with apartments on top, was extended as the developer tried to find financing for Schofield and focused on redeveloping the old WKYC building on East Sixth Street for Calfee, Halter & Griswold LLP. The Calfee project was scheduled to be finished by the end of 2011.
