I got a red light ticket in East Cleveland, I knew I was in the wrong, so I paid it. $95
Sometimes they dont have sign's posted, and have a little speed box hidden. They snapped
me in a school zone without any signs posted during school hours. 7mph over the speed limit
with no sign posted, yeah I had to show up and say something. It was dismissed soon as I walked
in and showed her the paper cause she knew the sign wasn't posted. So I just wonder who else
had this happen and actually paid?

Just saying, some of these things can be faulty as all technology is. I do be seeing some
flashing when a person is already stopped at the light.

So cool you were able to get that dismissed. What a crock! I'm sure tons of people have simply paid it.

^^That's the name of the game with these things. They know that most people will pay them without hesitation. That's why they do it. At the first sign of a fight, they usually back down because these civil "offenses" carry zero legal weight and it's a human's word against an error-prone machine's output. They know that it isn't worth the fight. One day, when somebody gets mad enough, these things will be decimated in court. Until then, they are a great cash cow.

Heres a little thread revival..So I stumbled across this page after I received a letter from the "Municipal Services Bureau" about my red light camera ticket in East Cleveland. I got the mailed ticket this June and pretty much just ingored it but I got a letter the other day from this collection agency. I've read that they do business in a very improper manner and do not follow the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act, and really would do anything to get your money.

Can anyone suggest my best course of action? They said I owe an extra $50.00 late fine for a total of $145. I no longer live in Ohio and my license is out of state as well. If I end up paying anything, I certainly do not want to pay this company. So which government office should I contact to get this squared away, or should I ignore it?

Thanks for the help

DON'T PAY IT!!!! This is a civil offense, not a criminal one. It's just like getting a parking ticket. Most people don't pay, and there is nothing East Cleveland or any other city can do about it. However, they will hassle you.

Yeah, I have gotten the same thing. The collection agency can be a bit annoying, but they can't really do anything. At some point soon these things will be declared unconstitutional or East Cleveland will cease to exist (whichever comes first, I don't care) and at that point I believe the ticket will become null and void. I can wait it out.

Ok, so only a few days after I received the letter from the collection agency saying I have 60 days to pay, my parents started getting harassing calls from them (including twice on Sunday, my car is registered to my dad also). My dad is started to get annoyed at this and told me to do something about it. What exactly can I do in this position to get these calls to STOP?! I have the number to the East Cleveland courts, but will calling them do anything at this point since the ticket has already been given to the collectors?

The same exact thing happened to me, and I stupidly paid it before I went back and checked that there was a sign posted. It was on superior right? Someone should report this to road rant.

Ohio Revised Code Statute 4511.094(C) states: A local authority that uses traffic law photo-monitoring devices to enforce any traffic law at an intersection where traffic is controlled by traffic control signals that exhibit different colored lights or colored lighted arrows shall time the operation of the yellow lights and yellow arrows of those traffic control signals so that the steady yellow indication exceeds by one second the minimum duration for yellow indicators at similar intersections as established by the provisions of the manual adopted by the department of transportation under section 4511.09 of the Revised Code. And See Section 4D.10 of The Ohio Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices OMUTCD:this Law states the if you use a red Light Camera you have add 1 second to the length of the yellow light duration and the state minimum is 3 seconds so Yellow Light has to be 4 seconds long Thats the Law. Actually all Sections of the MUTCD Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices apply to All States.
Hi Iseered1014--

I'm about to go and check the length of a few yellow lights at known camera locations. I'm pretty sure that they are less than four seconds.
