Looking for consumer protection, marketing watchdog, legislative consulting job

I am an IT professional and I want to move back into the area, but I'm tired of working on big government systems that have no direct relevance to the normal citizen. I want to work in either Salem or Portland and would like a job related to consumer protection in some way.

What kinds of companies, non-profits, government offices do that kind of work.

P.S. I already checked the attorney general, but all they seem to want to hire are lawyers, not IT people like me.
