Unity Preparatory Charter School of Brooklyn is hosting an open house on Saturday, March 9th 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at their future home located at 432 Monroe St. in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. Unity is a new tuition–free public middle school coming to Community School District 13 in September 2013. The school will open its doors to 128 sixth grade students and will expand up to the 12th grade by September 2019. As a public charter school, Unity is open to all New York City students selected by lottery. Students living in Community School District 13 will receive preference in the lottery.
Parents and guardians will have the opportunity to learn about the application process, tour the school, participate in Q&A and meet members of Unity’s founding team. Attendees of the open house will learn about Unity’s college preparatory academic program in the liberal arts and sciences. They will also learn about the school’s co-curricular and civic engagement programs, including courses in Design & Technology and World Languages & Cultures as well as elective clubs in sports and the performing arts. Unity will provide individualized support to students academically and socio-emotionally with real-world opportunities for students to engage with the community through community service and other "beyond the classroom" activities.
