Boston, its a very important US city, and the most important on a global scale of all the capitals. Atlanta is not too far behind.

Sacramento and Austin are importantly politically, as they are the center of government for two states that have trillion dollar economies.

I would second these three in the same order and give honorable mention to Honolulu for tourism and military reasons and if we are talking metro as opposed to just a city; Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Oh basically to sum it up, which city (that happens to be a US state capital) appeals most to international eyes. And it's safe to discuss cities for the future as well.

For example, Columbus and Austin are gaining a lot of attention these days for their economy, population growth, and college life, etc etc...

Different things to different groups, really.

Young people tend to not think about it, but there are people that still love and are fascinated by Gone With the Wind, the Japanese in particular.

Our place in the entire Civil Rights Movement, and of course being the birthplace of Martin Luther King, Jr. There is an urban National Park here bearing his name surrounding his birthplace, the church he (and his father) preached in, and the place of his burial.

The home of CNN. There are people that like to visit former Olympic venues. Some people are drawn to Stone Mountain to see the carving, or to experience a little "faux" Southern history. Some people come (believe it or not) to visit the World of Coke.

You get the idea.
