What city do you think has the most attractive and walkable downtown?
If anyone has seen the TV show "The Ghost Whisperer" I'm looking for a town like that! Does something like it exist somewhere? Quaint but active, beautiful with plenty of flowers and maybe even a pretty center courtyard area.
And if you know of an especially beautiful downtown, got pictures?
The best downtowns are smaller cities and towns that haven't been bulldozed and replaced with high rise buildings in the names of urban renewal. I'll vote Santa Fe, NM, as the most "picturesque" downtown I've ever seen. Boulder, CO as a close runner up.
CoffeeAddict, these small towns (pop. 10,000 or less) in NEPA may just do the trick for you. Most have small town greens, coffee shops, art galleries, used bookstores, sidewalk cafes, bistros, delis, Victorian homes, etc. and are within a short drive to the conveniences of a medium-sized city like Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, or Williamsport. Scranton and Wilkes-Barre themselves are a bit larger in size than the fictitious Upstate NY town we've all grown to love and enjoy on "Ghost Whisperer" (which I think is based upon Saratoga Springs), but even they've been rebounding in the past 2-4 years and have a lot of residential neighborhoods with charm and appeal. Check out my photo tours, and let me know if any one of these vibrant communities piques your interest!
