If a very small part of NY populace is sophisticated, then the sophisticated population of Los Angeles is next to nothing.
People who live in NY are more educated. New York is a more cosmopolitan city. New York attracts more grads from top schools and white collar professionals. New York has better restaurants, museums, galleries, nightlife, shopping and entertainment.
And what LA dosen't have these things?
LA has - good colleges (UCLA, USC, Cal poly)
LA has - diverse neighborhoods (Chinatown, little Tokyo, little ethiopia, etc)
LA has - good restaurants (wolf gang puck based in LA)
LA has - good museums (the Getty very world renowned)
LA has - good night life (some of the best with new hotspots in Hollywood)
shopping entertainment all here!!!

There are restaurants and shopping in Houston but that doesn't make Houston's retaurants and shopping on the same level as New York.
Yeah, withouth offending any of our Angelenos here, New York host two out of three largest business district in the US, media moguls such as Viacom, Time Warner
Nothing more than cable outlets LA is the one making the shows.

pring giants such as New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Time, Newsweek, most of American advertising agencies, most financial companies, Broadway, all the big TV networks,
Who reads NY Times besides new yorkers, I am more happier with the Los Angeles Times. Most advertising agencies are based in LA, ever wacthed a car comercial? Times square is not a agency. Broadway is irrelevant in todays world. Some big TV networks are based in LA: ABC, CW, NBC, E! Disney, Nick. Atlanta also owns some networks too.

UN with its agenices that all together gives employment to milions of highly skilled professionals. It's a white collar mecca and it is served by osme of the best entertainment and food industry on the planet
The UN once again no real POWER!!!

New York offers the ultimate sophisticated urban experience and careers if that's what you are looking for New York is the place to be. Not so much with LA.

The reason why LA defenders back down is because they lack information and they feel overwhelmed.
