Are there any large cities where you'll find small town style friendliness? By large I'm talking over 500,000. Birmingham a little small for consideration, more cities in the Austin, Dallas, Atlanta range.

Well.. I'd say New Orleans.. but it's slightly below 500k. It used to be around 450k before Katrina. It will get back up to that number sometime.

"Small town" friendliness would be a stretch for any big city.
Minneapolis is probably the nicest I've seen.

Fort Worth, TX.

I wouldn't really say Dallas is a very friendly city. Compare it to us, Austin, and San Antone, Dallas seems as friendly as Newark (just sayin'....).

Funny thing happened today, though. One of the graduate students in one of our classes said that Houstonians were more stuck up than Dallasites..... Go fig.

The most friendly by far--Nashville, TN.

Surprisingly friendly (and this will shock the hell out of all of you): NYC
