If I could live anywhere and make it work, it would be Honolulu, Hawaii. Lacking that I would choose to be back in LA. Lacking that here in DFW or Miami, FL would be next. However, given cost of living, economy, brightness of future, and my current job, I wouldnt ever consider leaveing Dallas. DFW probably has the best future ahead of it now of any of the cities I named.
A beach house in Hanalei, Kauai, HI, a penthouse on the upper westside overlooking central park NYC, a house just off canyon road, Santa Fe, NM and a bluff top house on Orcas Island, WA looking west at the sunset.
Thanks. Again, I must stress that Manhattan is my choice if the sky's the limit money-wise. I would want it all.....the high rise luxury apartment, the restaurants, the theater, the movies, the stores, the concerts, the sports teams, the museums.......and all on a consistent basis, so I could only do it if I were pretty dang wealthy. I already lived in a shoebox in Boston on my wimpy (comparitively) salary, and although I loved Boston itself, I couldn't stand being so freekin' cramped when I was at home.
If I had to chose with the salary I have now, it's hard to pick a place that's better than where I currently am. Northern Michigan is obviously the antithesis of Manhattan, but it is a fabulous place to live in a totally different way.
Yeah, I agree NYC is great if you are wealthy, but if you want to make it work on a middle class income, I suppose you could do it. I'd probably have to consider living in an area of the country in which you can get by comfortably on a 40-50K salary for example. Places that come to my mind are Phoenix, Dallas, and Houston. I currently live in a small city about 20-25 minutes from downtown LA and its a nice neighborhood and quiet with lots of shops and restaurants, so I cannot complain Sure, my life's not perfect but all things considered, I'd say I'm still doing pretty good.
I would love to live in a place like Honolulu, but I don't think I could realistically live somewhere so isolated from the rest of the country, so I'll say New York, Santa Monica, or Seattle.
Either New York, Austin or somewhere else I guess. Other than that, I don't really care since I'm cool with where I am. Maybe Hawaii if it wasn't so isolated.
Oh, oh, how about a sternwheeler going up and down the Mississippi/Missouri/Ohio rivers depending on the season?
