Yeah, Manhattan is too touristy for me….even though it has become quite popular, though not anywhere as bad as Manhattan, I had an absolutely wonderful stay in Williamsburg on my last visit.
Many of the beaches have been decimated by hurricanes, so they aren't great to swim in. You are essentially encouraged to stay inside your resort area for safety reasons. Lots of armed police with AK-47s. The city itself is fairly run down. The times I did venture out and do the city, ride the bus, etc.....there were public altercations that made me feel unsafe and thus I wished I never had. YMMV

I think the touristy areas are fine. The big challenge is seaweeds.

I love going to the all-inclusive resorts in Cancun and Isla Mujeres. Just need to find the resorts where they clean up the seaweed but I spend most of the time by the pool with drinks. I also enjoy going to Nassau Bahamas but outside of the resort areas, it's also pretty run down.

Sounds like you've never actually visited, neither have the beaches been "decimated" by hurricanes and the state police are not issued Ak-47's, your story just doesn't pass the sniff test.
Why on earth would someone want to go to Cancun or any other coastal Mexican city in the summer?
Because a lot of people have no idea you don’t go to tropical/semi tropical touristy “resort” cities like Cancun, Costa Rica, St. Barths, and Miami (or anywhere in FL) in summer. They are pleasant and comfortable in winter. Mallorca, Spain is 100 degree now.

Williamsburg is cool. As a brooklynite I feel good in my borough these days compared to 10 years ago.
