Rockies. Always wanted to go there. Atlanta or Miami?
Miami, I actually find almost nothing to like about Florida but my husband swears I would totally like Miami - saw a short, well produced vid a few nights ago of a nighttime boat ride through the channels and it looked amazing. Been to Atlanta and had a blast, though nearly 30 years ago and would love to go back.
Pittsburgh.... would rather spend time in one of the country's top medium-sized cities than a rural region that seems pretty non-spectacular.
Malibu, CA or Coronado, CA?
Well, I've visited both of these, but they are basically sideshows from their adjacent core cities (Los Angeles and San Diego). Both are nice for different reasons. Malibu has the better cliffs and more exclusive clientele, while Coronado is closer to downtown SD and has the better beaches, a more neighborhoody feel, and of course one of the most elegant hotels in the country. Coronado by a nose due to its easier access.
Going back to the OP's criteria by using entire states (the previous matchup would fall under the "Beaches" category IMO):
Location: northern Vermont - previously NM, WA, & MA

Alabama or Indiana?
Landscapes & topography wise as well as culturally Alabama is a lot more interesting. I'd be up for visiting Gulf Shores and the northern part where the Appalachian hills are.
I'd rather visit Oxford. I'd rather check out Ole Miss's campus than UA - it has The Grove, Rowan Oak, and better architecture (so I've heard). I would also love to check out Oxford's food and drink scene.
Rosemary Beach, Florida or Narragansett, Rhode Island?

Rosemary Beach, Florida or Narragansett, Rhode Island?
Rosemary Beach. I lived in New England for a bit and do love and appreciate what the beaches there have to offer. But I much prefer the warmer water, warmer climate, easier accessed, and tropical feel of the Florida beaches. I especially love the Gulf Coast beaches. They're some of my favorite.

Atlanta, GA metro or Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX metro?
Gotta go with Atlanta here. The scenery is orders of magnitude better, and there's more history and more greenery. For its size, DFW is a borderline boring metro to vacation in.
How about the Pine Ridge Area of Nebraska (Chadron, Crawford, Fort Robinson), or Grand Mesa, Colorado.
Grand Mesa. Western Nebraska looks like an interesting place to visit in its own way, but its scenery can't compare to that part of Colorado.
Mesilla village, New Mexico or Bisbee, Arizona?
Mesilla village because New Mexico is a nicer state and underrated.
The Grand Hotel Golf Resort & Spa, Autograph Collection (Point Clear, AL) or Riverstone Resort (Pigeon Forge, TN)?
