It would be easier if you broke this down by genre. While NYC has been impactful in hop-hop/R&B and Rock, it's lacking in the country and EDM genres.
NYC is not lacking at all in EDM music. NYC has been at the forefront in hip hop, pop, r&b, EDM, rock, and jazz. The only popular American genre that NYC hasn't been at the forefront at is country music.
