Philly recorded 505 homicides in 1990. That's a rate of 31.8(virtually the same population as today) at its peak, unless it had something higher than that prior. Sadly, I can see it coming close to that number this year, since it is not far behind Chicago.
New Orleans (and D.C. right behind) had the highest murder rate for cities over 250,000.
Technically, Detroit was the worse in murder rate for cities over 1 million (when it had that many in the 1990s), followed by Dallas (48.6 per 100k), as surprising as that may seems.
It is rather fascinating. I would like to know if the domestic dispute-related murders are up compared to last year.
I guess people who want to kill will do so, pandemics notwithstanding.
I work as a paramedic in the hood. It’s amazing to me how many gunshots + stabbings and other assaults/homicides are still going on, but I think you said it best. A pandemic isn’t going to matter to these types of people that commit murder. And it’s getting warmer, so we all know what that means.

Philadelphia has 356 last year. I could see this year closer to 375, but not 500... That would be an unprecedented jump in a 1 year span. The stats don't point to 500 murders this year.

imo i would say close to 390 or higher depending how it is right now
Where did you get the number for Flint from? According to Flint police there were 7 homicides until April 5th. So unless a few came back from the beyond, only 4 on the 14th of April seems a little optimistic.
Los Angeles 71
Chicago 128
Milwaukee 41
Kansas City 44
Detroit 70
Las Vegas Metro 26
Houston 82
DC 45
New Orleans 46
Philly 113
Birmingham, AL is at 32 f those, four have been ruled justifiable and therefore are not deemed criminal. In all of Jefferson County, there have been 51 homicides including the 32 in Birmingham.
Savannah, GA 9
Manchester, NH 2
Richmond, CA 2 (near San Francisco)
Greenville, SC 8
Wilmington, NC 4

82 is not bad for Houston while the ideal right now would be around 50-60 Homicides or lower, Houston unlike so many other cities on this list is still growing 25,000 people a year, so even if it stays in the 240-280 range as it has done these past couple of years, it's per capita rate will slowly go down. Real decreases would be better for the city though, I was hoping after it hit 200 a couple of years ago it would stay at that level or continue decreasing but as of right now the number has been steady for the last half-decade.
