Freddy K, what do you have against DC? Did you move here and feel like you didn't fit in or something? Your hate for DC is a bit over the the top and disproportionate.
I was raised there. I think the posters boost it up to something it's not.
Where did I say Chicago was faster paced? are you meaning to quote me? I've lived in both, and I find them about equal, I'm just questioning your "points".
Washington DC has a much higher percentage of White Collar workers, hence why it can "go toe to toe on transit".
Also, Washington DC certainly has smaller borders than Chicago, but does that make it more compact? It certainly isn't as densely populated, I guess it just depends on how you define "compact"
Let me try to break it down to you. The city is only 61 square miles with 20% of that parkland. That means more than 500,000 people come into the city from 7am to 7pm bringing its total population to almost 1.2 million. 1.2 million people are in an area the size of Chicago's west side. Chicago is 4 times the size of DC at 240 square miles. Chicago also has 4 times the population of DC. For Chicago to reach this critical mass, it would have to bring in more than 2 million people every day. It doesn't.
Chicago, no question. There's too much government influence in DC, and the government is too lethargic by nature.
As for DC being the "most important" city, I think we saw clearly during the bailouts who really runs this country and who simply does what they're told.
