Since this is about most powerful skylines...I just had to mention the Lower Manhattan skyline with the original twin towers. Because that image I have up there ^...that is the culmination of skyscraper + power. Nothing quite symbolizes it anymore than that image.
Besides...what beats this in terms of power?

The average person could barely name just one building in any city in the US. But this forum is filled with a bunch of city loving geeks who know more about cities than an average person.
NYC does not have the only true world renown skyscapers. Get out of your neighborhood and talk to more people.
New York while it does have the world's most recognizable skyline, due to the media, movies, etc, that doesn't make it the best. I think it's a toss up with Hong Kong. Singapore, no way. Chicago, nice job but sorry, no.
Really cause my six year old cousin can name 4 in NY and he is into spongebob. Is it really due to media becuase when you look at rankings across many websites dothey based their rankings on how famous it is or good it is. HK and Singapore maybe good but they dont have as many truly iconic buildings or skylines. Many buildings in these cities are bland.
Possibly the best picture in this thread. Awesome. It reminds me of a cleaner version of this pic of Hong Kong (minus the beautiful shot of City Hall):
BigCityGuy, I'm curious as to why your nephew can identify 4 bldgs. in NYC. Does he live there and see them? Can he name one in LA or Miami? My guess is no and most people can't either. Unless...they're into downtowns.
And if it wasn't for media, movies, etc...how else would someone from Budapest or Boise know a given skyline is NYC? NYC is in the news all over the world. Therefore, it's the most recognizable skyline in the world. It's the same way people can recognize the Capitol in DC.
And... I would argue that HK overall has better architecture than NYC. Not as well known but more cutting edge and ascetically pleasing.

Just one opinion.
Well he lives here but he has never been to any of them. Atleast not yet but he can name other buildings in other cities just a couple. I guess cause of the media.
Really i would think its the other way around. Can you show me buildings in HK
that can compare to these on average overall.
Wow, thanks for the photo tour. NYC has great iconic architecture. Period. No argument.
And while I've never been to HK, it seems to have more contemporary architecture than NYC. Such as the Bank of China. (great bldg)
