Ergo, the most powerful man in finance and money in the world had to go to DC to explain his policies. And even he had to be appointed by the Pres. Wall St. bows in genuflection to The Hill so that they may drink from the trough of taxpayer subsidies.
Influential through the media, through the banking industry, and cuz of the global melting pot that it is, so many things taking place their in every angle.
DC on the other hand has more POWER though, this is when it comes to making the ultimate decisions for the rest of the US which indeed makes ultimate decisons over NYC

This.
DC has power due to the federal government..outside of that? NYC hands down.
I went with DC. It's a far more accessible city than NY, and, frankly, I don't care how influential a place is if it's too hard to get into to even look at.
New York is important culturally and (perhaps) financially (though China is a lot more important to the US economy than anything home grown.)
DC is like the nerdy kid who does all the work while the popular kid gets all the attention. I would argue that DC is actually more important, but NYC is percieved to be more important.
