I don't really consider Maryland to be southern, but out of all those states, I'd pick Maryland. I'd actually probably pick Maryland out of any state in the U.S. to relocate to.

For a "true" southern state, I'd choose Virginia (Arlington, Alexandria, or Richmond if I had to) or North Carolina (Research Triangle I guess? or Raleigh/Durham).

edit:

I didn't really notice till after I posted, but we picked the same three places. Nice.

I picked Maryland, followed by VA (northern only), both because of proximity to DC. This is as far South as I care to go.

Delaware by the way, is not a southern state by any means.

If Maryland is southern, then there are a lot of 'means' by which Delaware is also southern.

I honestly can't fathom how Virginia is the south yet Maryland isn't. Either both of them are or neither one is, as far as I am concerned.

I'm not sure if you realized this, but Raleigh/Durham and the Research Triangle are the same place. But those are great choices.

Lmao it doesn't even matter if Florida wins this poll or not, because there are already so many people in this state from other states, yeah, go ahead pick North Carolina! =)

Slave state, similar number of slaves per capita to northern Maryland (which most seem to consider southern), and Jim Crow laws.

As far as geography is concerned, Delaware is definitely a northeastern state.

Most people don't consider Maryland to be Southern. The thing that makes Delaware "more" northern that MD if anything is just the fact that most of DE's population lives in Philly's suburbs.
