I've lived in four (two for several years each and two for summers)
New Orleans: Lived here for several years as a kid. I liked the general vibe of the city and loved the food, music and unique culture (didn't realize how unique it was at the time). Downside was the crime.
Atlanta: I spent three summers in Atlanta (one of the suburbs) in college. Thought it was pretty cool, and I like the general speed of the city, but I disliked how spread out everything was and the fact that as a result it didn't feel quite as "city" like to me. Also, not a great museum scene for a city of its size.
Washington, DC: lived there for five years and liked it a lot. I loved the wide variety of options for food, museums, music, etc. The biggest downsides are the cost and the fact that so many people there are hard-core ladder climbers. I lived in the District and thus didn't have to deal with driving.
New York: spent one summer there. Fantastic place to live for a little while. Whatever you want is at your finger tips. I would not want to live there long term b/c the pace was a little much for me and the cost was crazy.
San Francisco (10 years) loved it
New York (6 months) job didn't work out
Philadelphia (30 years) my home
Boston (18 months) back before the big dig
Phoenix (5 years) hot dry and dusty
