Columbus is a mecca for governmental employment. The city has more employed in the government sector than any other in Ohio. Other large employers include several locally headquartered banks and insurance companies.

The largest employers are:

1.) State Of Ohio
2.) United States Government DFAS
3.) City Of Columbus
3.) Franklin County
4.) Ohio State University
5.) Chase Bank

Others include: Nationwide Insurance, Grange Insurance, Motorists Mutual Insurance, Safe Auto Insurance, State Auto Insurance and Huntington Bank; all locally founded and headquartered in Columbus.
