I am a 19-year old college student interested in moving West after college. By "West," I mean the Mountain states (Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Nevada); the Southwest (Arizona, New Mexico), the Pacific Northwest (Oregon, Washington state), and perhaps Alaska or Hawaii. I want a racially/ethnically diverse city, with pretty liberal politics, and an active outdoorsy lifestyle, as I am very liberal, value diversity, and enjoy being outside (I live in the DC suburbs of northern Virginia, and commute to GMU, so there are not many great outdoor activities close to my hometown). Also, I am looking for a city with a diverse selection of physically attractive, friendly, intelligent women (I am very shy, and have never dated any girls in my hometown due to lack of interest; they are too focused on MTV/Top 40 music/fast food/cliquish malls, etc. for my tastes, and have vain, haughty, superficial personalities and are often not very intelligent). I love to read (NOT TWILIGHT BOOKS THOUGH), listen to older (late 20th century) music, watch older (same time period) movies, and play video games, and am interested in history and some sciences, and am also starting to get interested in anime/Korean dramas; for a career, I will most likely be either an archaeologist or paleontologist (studies dinosaurs/fossils/prehistoric life). I am not interested in going to California, as it seems very superficial and all about showing off and being flashy, nor to the Plains states, as I am deathly afraid of tornados; Hawaii might do, but it seems so far away from everything else (family, et. al). If my negative perceptions are unfounded, please correct me. I thank you for your help!

Man that whole question was going straight for San Francisco or Los Angeles until you said (NOT CALIFORNIA THOUGH) LOL. Personally I would still go with Cali, you can't just say the WHOLE state is "superficial and flashy". How do you really know that unless you give it a shot?

As others have suggested, your ideal city would be Seattle\ Portland\ Denver and perhaps Albuquerque\ Honolulu\ Tucson\ Phoenix\ Las Vegas.

Seriously, the only place I'd move out west is to California, just my opinion though.

I'd choose Colorado Springs.

I'm going to say Denver even though you are setting yourself up for disappointment when it comes to its people.

BTW, we have tornadoes in CO.

Seattle. But if I was going to move that way, I would move to Albuquerque.

I'd have to say - Albuquerque, Denver and Tucson (and in that order) first, because the weather in those places is more condusive to many days of outdoor fun. After that it would be Seattle and Portland (weather permitting).

They are all racially diverse, and for the most part socially liberal.

I'm not sure about the archeology/paleontology programs at UNM in Albuquerque, but they have a great cultural anthropology program. I know there have been many dinosour bone discoveries in New Mexico and Colorado.
