We're looking at Alexandria and Florence but are not sure how bad the commute would be to downtown Cincy, specifically the VA. Mapquest says around 25 minutes but that is without traffic factored in. Does anyone commute in from these towns and have any insight? Thanks.

If you are close to I-75 in Florence the commute shouldn't be too bad. There can be quite a bit of traffic if you're coming from 42 or 18 to the West of 75.

Alexandria is a straight shot up 27 to 471. There are plans in the future to widen the AA through Newport to the river so that would be another option and should lessen the volume on 27/471.

^ Florence is like tossing a dice, it can be 20 minutes with no rush hour, 30-40 with rush hour, and if anything and I mean anything in regards to a wreck or something that closes a lane, it's lights out and you might as well put up a tent, call the wife, and start a fire.

From what you're describing, you should be looking into Newport or Covington.

... yes, I make this commute a lot.

And every once in awhile, you'll get some EXTRA entertainment! On occasion, a "Billy (or Bobbi) Big Rigger" (as opposed to the vast majority of professional truck drivers) will come flying down I-71/75's "Cut in the Hilll". Despite a broadcast warning on the C.B. radio and SEVERAL large yellow signs with flashing lights, he or she will dazzle onlookers with the execution of a jacknife as they try to stop their thundering rig. (Especially likely with wet/icy roads) May you all never get to see that...

Oh ... If I had a quarter for every semi-jacknifed I saw on 71/75, I'd be a rich man! lol

I-75 going northbound(morning) in KY is the most commonly backed up artery in the metro. unless it's a holiday you'll ALWAYS have a 10-20 min delay 7-9AM. As someone said early coming from Alexandria you should not have too much of a problem, up until they ever start construction on the Brent Spence.
