Connecticut lawmakers are considering a bill that would give the government the right to rule the Catholic Church.

Raised Bill 1098 would remove the authority of the bishop and pastor over individual parishes and put a board of laymen in their place.

Bill would place state in charge of Catholic Church (OneNewsNow.com)

IF what they are saying about this bill is true, that the government would remove the authority of the bishop, I honestly think that would amount to a Constitutional crisis because it would mean the end of separation of church and state, which would be a direct violation of the First Amendment. I don't think the Supreme Court would allow it. At the very least, the Pope needs to let his voice be heard about this matter.

This would be a serious violation of the constitution.

I dunno the intricacies of the law, but the Constitution states that CONGRESS shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.
Or something like that.

Even though this move isn't good, Connecticut is not the Congress.

Relax, it's NEVER going to happen. But if it does, I will start to believe Betsey about the end of the world.

what does a parish mean in this instance? a parish in louisiana I would think is different than one in connecticut right?

If they are different then the law would eventually be overturned..

If they aren't different then I see nothing wrong with the law

I think the Catholic Church might raise an objection, though.

They can raise whatever they like. Parish's in Louisiana are like counties.

List of parishes in Louisiana - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

so my question is if a connecticut parish is like a louisiana parish then the catholic church has no leg to stand on since a louisiana parish is not religious but a county.

now if a connecticut parish is truly a church parish then I see no reason why a laymen would be on the board.

thus.. the question I posed.. what is the definition of a connecticut parish and are they like a louisiana parish.
