I don't see as many trick or treaters as I once did. The local churches put on Fall Festivals and such.
But, one of the things that I do now when I hand out things is to include things not sweet but that children will like.
Halloween stickers and pencils are on teh list for those old enough to use pencils.
Sugar free gum is another treat kids love
and what candy I do give out is the good kind so the whole family can enjoy!
I try to mix it up each year and enjoy getting into the festivities, but for some reason, might be the heat, I have not gotten even my yard decorated with the usual scarecrow, pumpkins, hay and mums. No corn husks either! Aaaaaawwww, I'm losing it, am a shrew....er, maybe I just stay on cd when I should be decorating.
well I got three pumpkins on my front porch. That's about as exciting as I've gotten Aiangel. I always look forward to November 1 cause all the Halloween stuff is over. I have a co-worker who can't understand why I don't get into Halloween. I don't make a big deal about it, and don't say anything unless asked. I'm a Halloween Heathen!! Well enough procrastinating...I have to finish my paper for school tonight. Thank goodness I feel like crud today so I can stay home from work and do my paper. May even stay home tomorrow wtih how I'm feeling! Ick!!
Most years, no. Year before last, we did hand out candy along with Christian tracts geared for children. (Yes, we really did! Hope the "tract thing" doesn't "shock and awe" anybody!)
Oh, to be a fly on the wall in some homes, when going through the candy!!
We always took our kids trick or treating. We always had one rule your costume can not be the devil or anything that resembles Him. We live in a small mountain town and the people in town have about 4 country blocks. The people decorate their homes and some dress up and really go all out in passing out candy. The police officers are about passing out candy and talking to the kids. Most parents get out and walk in the first snow with the young ones. It's just our luck our first snow is usually Halloween night. The local churches put on a Harvest Festival at the High School.
The kids around here associate Halloween to just having fun on the first snowfall.

Yep. Some parents may not have appreciated it, but oh, well. I heard some of the little kids commenting excitedly that "they got a cartoon with their candy." (The children's tracts were in the form of comics.) In our community, teen-agers still trick or treat and I had a tract geared for them which had to do with American Idol and they were all wanting the American Idol tract...so go figure!
I'm certain that most people who don't give out candy are not Scrooges at heart - but dark, unwelcoming houses on Halloween night sure make it look that way.
hi just because some people don't choose to celebrate halloween does not mean that we are Scrooges.... and i dont think it looks like that either....you can say the same thing about Christmas....some people don't celebrate that neither and they don't have their houses decorated. what's it to me? if they choose not to celebrate it then RESPECT IT we dont have to make people happy by puttin up our decorations and being forced to have our lights on and celebrate it.
I personally DON'T celebrate Halloween and i don't believe i need to just to not come out as a Scrooge. We just put a sign up on our door stating that we don't celebrate it.
I DON"T condemn anyone for it neither, to each his own.
Thanks

I'm not condemning you - just letting you know that, yes, you do look like a scrooge. It doesn't mean that you ARE a scrooge.
It's not a matter of respect, and of course you can choose to do (or not do) whatever you want on Halloween. It makes no difference to me.
The fact remains: dark houses on Halloween = Scrooge lives there (in the minds of the trick-or-treaters).
I know because I spent many happy childhood years trick-or-treating.
just debating on whether to scare kids with hockey mask..or rubber one...decisions decisions...
We are sooo gonna have to pray for you, arguy! LOL!
