It's kind of on the fence in all honesty. If you're within 10 feet of the campus, you're fine. The second you cross Ogden, it gets kind of shady. I use to always get text with updates such as armed robberies. Sadly, I don't go to UIC anymore

I used to work down there a lot, unfortunately there were a lot of UIC community notices of robberies (mostly snatch-and-grab, no weapons involved...usually). You may want to look at Greektown, which is just a bit north but in a more densely-populated and well-lit area including at night.

Well East campus is around Halsted and Taylor, that is about as safe as you can get in Chicago IMO

LOL.

The area around UIC is one of the safer neighborhoods in the city. Dupers A and B are basing their opinions on the email alerts they get from the University, oblivious to the fact that if they got email alerts about every crime that happens in Lincoln Park, they'd think it was a crime-ridden ghetto, too.

Some people, it seems, are just not cut out for big city life, and anyone who can't see that Taylor Street is not a ghetto needs eyeglasses and a brain.
